Audio Editing, Mixing and Mastering

  • Clean up your audio product, teleseminar recording or marketing tool. I can eliminate blemishes from the recordings. For example: um..., uh..., etc. as well as coughs, beeps, unwanted silence, unwanted words, sentences and conversations.
  • Rearrange parts of audio recordings for different applications and create audio tracks to enhance the user-friendliness of CD or internet-based audio products.
  • Remove background noise, hum, clicks & crakles, improve clarity, manage dynamics and add in fades and personalized effects.
I can prepare your recordings for whatever publishing format you want, such as:
  • Deliver audio in formats optimized for internet or CD use.
  •  MP3, AAC, CDA, VOC, AU, SND, AIF, AIFF, WMA, etc...
  • Audio CDs - Wave format 16bit / 44.100kHz & 24bit - 48.000kHz
  •  Add music to your recording, such as an introduction and closing fade-in/fade-out, or low background music behind the person speaking
  • Normalizing the volume, various types of effects, compression, equalization, noise reduction, etc...
This is great for many types of audio recording projects. For instance:
  • Recorded interviews - I can edit your recording to make things sound as smooth and polished as possible.
  • Training/Sales Presentations - Maybe you did a live presentation and some parts of the presentation don’t apply to people listening to the replay. I can cut out parts you don’t want.
  • Audio Books - cleaning, cutting out, replaceing words/sentences, etc...
  • Tapes & Records - cleaning the whole recording, removing unwanted noise, boosting the level, etc...
It is amazing what can be done to clean up audio and how big of a difference it can make.
Done right, audio editing can make a recording sound much more professional.
Let me show you how good you can sound !

Listen to a brief before/after sample below.

What I Can’t Do For You:

Just a few notes on things I probably can’t help with. Sometimes I get recordings from people trying to do some detective work to use as evidence against someone. You probably need "forensic audio" services for that - like the stuff you see on TV. I primarily work with people using audio for business purposes or private use. Also, if you’re using copyrighted music, make sure you have rights to use it.

    Professional-level Audio Editing:

I remove background noise, level out the sound (so everyone can be heard - very important on teleconference recordings with multiple participants), remove all stuttering, ums, ahs, repeated words and phrases, to create a streamlined audio product. These Professional-level editing services cost xx/hr. with a 15 minute minimum. Includes ID3 tags.
Note: Multi-segment podcasts/audios take longer to put together.
A one to three person audio recording usually takes approximately 4 times the length of the raw recording. For example, if you have a 20 minute recording, it will take approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to edit it, including mixing it with music.
For recordings with more than 3 people, the editing time increases to a minimum of 4-5 times* the length of the raw recording. A 1 hour recording with 4 or more people will normally take 4-5 hours to edit, including mixing music. *unless it’s already very clean of mistakes.
This level of editing is recommended for businesses that want to have as clean a product as possible, especially if you will be selling them.
Note: Noise happening in the background of your audio at the same time you are talking, such as: paper shuffling, dog barking, phone ringing, other person talking, or a car horn, cannot be removed. If it happens when there is no talking, this can and will be removed. It’s best to record your audio in a quiet place, or pause the recording, get your bearings, and start recording again, but start from the content you know that was interrupted. Then we’ll take out the bad section and you’ll never know it was there.
If you’re recording and you want me to cut out a section, simply say something like this during the recording, “Nick, I want to cut that part out and start again from here”. Some people say “stop tape” and “start tape” as they are recording to indicate the section they want removed and replaced with what’s coming up. Feel free to communicate what you want during the recording, almost like dictating some instructions mixed in with what will be kept.
Also note that podcasts using a phone call-in line may not be as clear as if you recorded using recording software on your computer, and can sometimes result in lots of pops and clicks that are extremely difficult to remove or diminish. Please note that with teleseminars or recordings done using a phone will often have a background hiss behind the talking that cannot be removed. The hiss between talking can be removed, just not what you hear as talking occurs. Attempting to remove the hiss behind the talking sometimes creates a warbled effect on the entire audio.

    Pricing:

The hourly rate is xx Euro's, with a 30-minute minimum, meaning a xx Euro's minimum for projects.
Just for clarity, that’s based on the time I spend editing, not on the length of the recording.
The amount of time can vary a lot, depending on how extensive of an edit you need, but obviously you need to have some idea of the cost, so I’ll give you a few guidelines.
For a really basic edit such as cutting off unwanted silence or noise at the beginning and/or end of a recording and mixing in music, usually it’ll only take about 30 minutes to an hour.
If you need a more extensive edit, where I go through the entire recording and cut out uh’s and um’s and other unwanted noises, or if I need to cut out sections, splice things together, etc., it’s going to take a lot longer. That type of editing is very tedious and time consuming, so allow about 4-6 hours of editing time for each hour of recording you have.
Prices are based on a 1-week turnaround time. Depending on our schedule, it could be quicker than that.  If you need rush service (24-hour turnaround), add 50%. Rush service is subject to availability, so please Contact Me and let me know what you need and I’ll let you know what I can do.
Remember, I’m here to help you. Use me to whatever extent is affordable for you.

Important - Please note: if your audio is of questionable sound quality, I’ll clean up a small sample and have you review and approve it before proceeding any further.
